Shubh Mangal Saavdhan stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar as a couple who fall in love and plan on getting married. When they try to be physically intimate, they learn that the groom (Khurrana) suffers from erectile dysfunction. This poses a problem to their alliance. The duo was last seen in the 2015 rom-com Dum Laga Ke Haisha which went on to win the National Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
The film is directed by R Prasanna, who made the 2013 Tamil film Kalyana Samayal Saadham. He has said that Shubh Mangal Saavdhan is a “spiritual remake” of the Tamil film.
This will be Khurrana’s third film this year. He recently starred as a novelist in Meri Pyaari Bindu and will be seen alongside Kriti Sanon and Rajkummar Rao in Bareilly Ki Barfi later this month. Khurrana has called Shubh Mangal Saavdhan an “antithesis to Vicky Donor“, his National Award-winning debut film about a sperm donor.
The movie is produced Aanand L Rai and Krishika Lulla and will be presented by Eros. Shubh Mangal Saavdhan will release on 1st September.
