Kalank Trailer Talk: Lavish Visuals, And Heavy, Dramatic Lines In Star-Studded Period Drama

The trailer for Abhishek Varman's highly anticipated Kalank is finally here. The 2-minute long trailer doesn't add much to the previously released, equally long teaser which had more impact, as is most often the case.

Aside from more lavish visuals, the trailer of Dharma Production's grand 'tale of eternal love set in Pre-Independence India with a Bhansali-esque aesthetic gives us more glimpses into the drama and plot neither of which exactly inspire excitement. There are indications of a chain of love stories. Put simply, it appears to suggest that Sonakshi Sinha loves Aditya Roy Kapur who's married to Alia Bhatt who loves Varun Dhawan who loves her back. Hopefully there's more to it.

Like the teaser, the focus is once again on the turbulent, rich-girl-poor-boy love story between Dhawan's Zafar and Bhatt's Roop. Both appear to be of different religions. Intermittent clips featuring the wider cast – Roy Kapur, Sanjay Dutt, Sinha and Madhuri Dixit – also say heavy, dramatic lines which add little. One can only hope that this isn't another film in which substance doesn't get lost in style.

We also get a look at additional cast members in Kunal Khemu, Kiara Advani, and a song featuring Kriti Sanon. The trailer ends with a nice little twist on the classic Bollywood train chase sequence set against what appear to be riots, with Roop literally stuck between Zafar and Dev.

A collaboration between Dharma Productions, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, and Fox Star Studios, Kalank releases on April 17th. You can watch the trailer below:
