Sonchiriya Trailer Talk: Rebels In Chambal, Emergency, And Solid Ensemble Of Actors

The trailer of Abhishek Chaubey's Sonchiriya opens with the declaration of Emergency in the scarily calm voice of Indira Gandhi on All India Radio, and ends with two dacoits joking about the possibility of getting mutton in prison after they've surrendered – although they like to think of themselves more as rebels (baaghi). The year is 1975, we are in Chambal, where the lawless and the law clash.

There is violence within, in the gang wars and the family and caste conflicts, as well as with police. A solid ensemble is unveiled as one actor after another makes an appearance – Ranvir Shorey, Manoj Bajpayee, Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar, Ashutosh Rana. But something tells us that all the action in Sonchiriya centres on a little girl, who we are not shown much.

Sonchiriya's screenplay and dialogue is by Sudip Sharma. The songs are composed by Vishal Bhardwaj and lyrics are by Varun Grover.

It is produced by Ronnie Screwvala, and will release on 8 February.
