Neha Dhupia and Ranvir Shorey have both been in the industry for close to 15 years surviving the feast and famine that is often part of an actor’s life. During a Facebook live with Film Companion the actors let us in on the do’s and don’ts of surviving showbiz.

Don’t compare yourself to others

Ranvir: The biggest tip I can give anyone looking to survive here is to never compare yourself with someone else. It is the shortest road to hell in this business.

Don’t ever be insecure

Neha: If you have to be insecure about anything let it be about your own work so that you can get better at it.

Don’t chase money

Ranvir: The biggest drawback of being so fringe in my approach to cinema is that you end up being poor. Sometimes I have no work, therefore I have no money.

Work to better your craft

Ranvir: It isn’t easy to water down your sensibilities. I cannot get myself to run around trees and romance chiffon-clad women. I don’t want to artistically head in that direction, because that is the hunt for more money and not for excellence in acting or your craft.

Be sure of your talent

Neha: You just have to be so sure of your talent and your worth, only then will people realise it. You just have to keep at it.
