Wonka (English)

When: December 8

This modern-day retelling, based on Roald Dahl’s iconic characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, will see Timothée Chalamet play the enigmatic Willy Wonka, previously essayed by actors like Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp in earlier screen adaptations. The prestigious entertainer deals with a small child’s wish coming true in a fantastical world populated by a cesspool of chocolates, fairies and wild adventures. The film is directed by Paul King and features Sally Hawkins, Calah Lane, Keegan Michael Key and Rowan Atkinson in the ensemble cast.

Thanksgiving (English)

When: December 8

Following the genre mainstays of classic American slasher flicks from the late 80s and ’90s, Eli Roth’s latest directorial effort has been well received as a callback to the tradition of the gore fuelled, cathartic exploitation films from back in the day, albeit in a modern setting. The film is set in the backdrop of a tragedy that ensues in a neighbourhood on Thanksgiving break, only to unravel through an unknown masked killer setting out on a killing rampage. The film stars Patrick Demsey, Addison Rae, Milo Manheim, Jalen Thomas Brooks and Rick Hoffman rounding up the cast.

Hi Nanna (Telugu)

When: December 7

A romantic drama involving a single father, his young daughter and an outsider tells the story of unlikely connections that happen in unexpected ways. An emotional roller coaster that will take on some heady themes of modern-day parenting and relationships, the promotional material offers a heartfelt entertainer. The film is directed by debutant Shouryuv and features Nani, Mrunal Thakur, Kiara Khanna and Jayaram in the lead cast.

Rani (Malayalam)

When: December 8

This father-daughter story set in the foothills of Idukki charts how a seemingly trivial issue snowballs into a major talking point that threatens to disrupt their peaceful life. The film, directed by debutant Nizamudeen Nazar, features Shivani Menon, Biju Sopanam, Kavitha Biju and Maqbool Salman in the lead roles.

Extra Ordinary Man (Telugu)

When: December 8

What happens when a junior artist in films ends up being the hero in his own life? This entertainer starring Nithiin in the lead role, focuses on the life of a youngster after putting up being often relegated to an extra in his own life, finally deciding to take things into his own hands. Directed by Vakkantham Vamsi, the film features Sreeleela, Rohini, Rao Ramesh, Sampath Raj and Sudev Nair in the leading roles.

Silent Night (English)

When: December 8

A father who lost his voice in a shooting incident which also cost his son's life embarks on a seemingly impossible training regime to seek revenge. This high-octane action thriller will mark the return of the veteran filmmaker John Woo. It stars Joel Kinnaman, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Kid Cudi.

Joram (Hindi)

When: December 8

A Vengeful Mother. A helpless man forced to run away with an infant. A gruelling chase. All these narrative strands come together in this survival drama about the system weighing down heavily on a common man who makes a difficult task head-on. The film starring Manoj Bajpayee, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Smita Tambe among others is directed by award-winning independent filmmaker Devashish Makhija.

Aval Peyar Rajni (Tamil)

When: December 8

This supernatural thriller features Kalidas Jayaram, Namitha Pramod, Reba Monica John, Saiju Kurup, Ashwin Kumar, Karunakaran and Shaun Romy in key roles. The film is set around the life of two siblings whose eventless life is turned upside down when they are subjected to a crime, shrouded in mystery. The film will deal with the brother’s attempt at unlocking the secret, which takes a wild turn when the paranormal presence further complicates the truth. The film is written and directed by debutant director Vinil Scariah Varghese.

Pulli (Malayalam)

When: December 8

This prison break drama revolves around an inmate serving his second sentence in prison, who is forced to hatch an impossible plan to break out after he receives a life-altering phone call. The film is directed by Jiju Asokan and stars Dev Mohan, Indrans, Kalabhavan Shajon and Meenakshi Dinesh in the leading roles.

Nona The Truth Unravelled  (Malayalam)

When: December 8

A couple of villagers owning a toddy shop face a unique problem when they are forced to rely on a set of lies that changes their lives forever. The film directed by Rajesh Urulam, stars Indrans, Biju Dayandhan, Sreejith Ravi, Sisira Sebastin and Godwin Jac Uthup in the lead roles.

Hurry Om Hurry (Gujarati)

A triangle love story where relationships are hindered when outside forces start to meddle and threaten to disrupt and reveal secrets that will alter their lives forever. The film stars Siddarth Randeria, Malhaar Rathod, Raunaq Kamdar and Vyoma Nandi in the leading roles. Hurry Om Hurry is helmed by Nisarg Vaidya.

Kastoori The Musk (Hindi)

When: December 8

Kastoori The Musk, a coming-of-age film presented by Anurag Kashyap and Nagaraj Manjule, will explore the life of Gopi, a fourteen-year-old who hails from a family of manual scavengers. His life takes a turn when he comes across a kastoori tree that gives him hope for a better future, that will give him respect for who he is rather than his caste and family history. The social drama directed by Vinod Kamble stars Samarth Sonawane, Shravan Upalkar and Vaishali Kendale in the leading roles.

Kaiva (Kannada)

Set amidst a longstanding gang feud, this action-adventure fuses the elements of mythology, an interfaith marriage and a quest for vengeance in equal measures. The film, directed by Jayatheerta, stars Dhanveerrah Gowda, Megha Shetty, Mahantesh Hiremath and Jayaram Karthik in the lead roles.

Marichi (Kannada)

What will happen when a serial killer, targeting only doctors, openly challenges the police force? Will the officer in charge be able to unearth the mysterious modus operandi of the killer and put an end to the brutal, seemingly random murders? The serial killer mystery directed by Siddhruv Siddu, features Vijay Raghavendra, Sonu Gowda and Abhi Das in lead roles.

Athi I Love You (Kannada)
