Norwegian film The Worst Person in the World was nominated in the Best International Feature and Best Original Screenplay categories at the 94th Academy Awards. Director and co-writer Joachim Trier tells Gayle Sequeira why he couldn’t have made the film if he hadn’t become more optimistic about love, how he tried to avoid cliché with its sex scenes and why art should be allowed to be messy and provocative.
