Vakeel Saab Trailer Talk, Starring Pawan Kalyan: This Trailer Of The Pink Remake (Rightfully) Brings Back Focus To The Film’s Message, Film Companion

Two weeks before the release of Pawan Kalyan’s first film since 2018’s Agnyaathavaasi, we got the much-awaited trailer of the star’s Vakeel Saab. He plays the lawyer in this official remake of Pink. He will reprise the role played by Amitabh Bachchan in the Hindi original and by Ajith in the film’s Tamil iteration, Nerkonda Paarvai.

In the two-minute trailer, we finally shift focus away from the star to get to the point of the film’s important message. A courtroom drama, the trailer gives more time to the three heroines (Anjali, Nivetha Thomas and Ananya Nagalla) rather than Pawan Kalyan who had dominated the teaser. From the trailer, we see Prakash Raj posing really tough questions to the three girls before the ‘Vakeel Saab’ makes his entry.

Although a serious subject, the director has managed to weave in massy elements like Pawan Kalyan’s strapping on a Rolex and him repeatedly clicking his pen to appeal to his massive fan base. Which isn’t exactly wrong given the film’s lesson on the concept of consent.

Another noticeable addition is a fight scene where he’s wearing a lawyer’s gown set in a metro train. A similar addition was also made in Ajith’s version of the film.

Nerkonda Paarvai (also produced by Boney Kapoor) had also included a tragic flashback for the star with Vidya Balan making a cameo appearance. But we’ll have to wait till April 9 to see if there’s any such changes made to the script in its Telugu version.

But the teaser of the film, released late year, showed no signs that it was the remake of the critically acclaimed film. It’s not wrong for remakes to take alternative routes to reach the destination, but the teaser didn’t feature the women around whom the movie revolves around for more than a second.

The film is being directed by Venu Sriram. Other actors include Prakash Raj (playing the rival lawyer), Anjali, Nivetha Thomas and Ananya Nagalla. The music is by S. Thaman and it is being shot by PS Vinod.

The original screenplay of the film is being credited to Aniruddha Roy Chowdhary (also, director)  and Shoojit Sircar.
