Viduthalai Trailer: Soori And Vijay Sethupathi Fight Against The System in This Vetri Maaran Drama

You separate humans upon birth as top, bottom, or middle. We fight for the inclusion of all in society. Who are the separatists here?” asks Vijay Sethupathi in the trailer of Viduthalai Part 1, essaying the role of a revolutionary leader Perumal Vaathiyaar. The film revolves around the police operation to take down the “People’s Army”, a separatist outfit that resides in the forest and executes coordinated attacks on the police force. With increased attacks, the police decide to capture Perumal either ‘dead’ or ‘alive’.

Soori plays Kumaresan, a cop eager to rise up the ranks in the force and take down Perumal Vaathiyar. While they are on different sides of the law, the trailer shows both of them rebelling against the atrocities committed by the police force. Perumal clashes with the police for sexually harassing the village's women under the pretext of an investigation. The same incident triggers disillusionment in Soori, with the trailer indicating him fighting against the system. “Are you getting angry? Will you hit me?” asks a senior police officer to Kumaresan. “Yes, I will hit you sir,” responds Soori without batting an eyelid.

The film seems to posit that Kumaresan and Perumal are two sides of the same coin, with different motives. While Gautham Menon and Rajeev Menon have little screen time in the trailer, they make their presence felt as senior police officials. The trailer promises yet another intense Vetri Maaran drama, where the white-knuckle action sequences are balanced with several moments of drama that stay with the viewer.

Distributed by Red Giant Movies, the film features music by Maestro Ilaiyaraaja, and cinematography by R Velraj who has previously collaborated with the director on Asuran (2019) and Vada Chennai (2018). Set to release in two parts, Part 1 is slated to release on 31st March 2023.
