Gautham Vasudev Menon announced his latest collaboration with Silambarasan with the film Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu, making this the actor's 47th film.
A teaser that was released today is set to the voice and tune of A.R. Rahman. Muthu, played by Silambarasan, is an ordinary man who is trying to get by in life by working odd jobs that he is unable to keep. We suddenly see a different side of him as he seems to have got caught up in a brawl and becomes a killer who shoots at people and slits throats mindlessly.
The actor-director duo's last outing was the short film titled Karthik Dial Seytha Yenn which was shot and released during the pandemic. This was based on characters from their first film Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, also starring Trisha.
Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu also stars Kayadu Lohar, who will make her Tamil debut after starring in the Kannada movie Mugilpete, directed by Bharat S Navunda. Raadhika Sarathkumar and Siddique will also appear in key roles.
The film is written by Jeyamohan who last shared writing credits with A.R. Murugadoss for Sarkar. Vetrimaaran's upcoming film Viduthalai is an adaptation of this writer's short story titled Thunaivan.
Music for the film is being composed by A.R. Rahman. This will mark the third collaboration of the director, actor and music composer in a feature film after Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa and Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada.
The cinematography is handled by Siddharth Nuni of the Kannada film Lucia (2013) fame for which he also won the Best Cinematographer Award at the South Indian International Movie Awards. Editor Anthony who was introduced by Gautham Vasudev Menon with his film Kaakha Kaakha (2003) continued his collaboration with the director for many films and has been roped in for Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu as well. His last film was the biographical drama Thalaivii.
The film is produced by Dr. Ishari K Ganesh under the banner of Vels Films International.
