Master Teaser: Vijay Is Coming Soon As Professor ‘JD’ In A Mega Clash With Vijay Sethupathi

After a lot of confusions and disappointment for fans, the teaser of Vijay's long-detailed Lokesh Kanakaraj film finally dropped on Deepavali as a treat for his admirers.

In the 1 minute 30 seconds teaser, we see little in terms of a story or a plot line. Apart from the fact that it's about a professor fighting for his students in a college setting, there's not a lot of new information. But what we get is loads of style an early indication of the look and feel of the film, which includes a lot  of kickass fight scenes. The most exciting of these looks like one set in a Metro, hinting that the film too is placed somewhere in or near Chennai.

Vijay is only seen and spoken about. He seems to be playing a professor named JD and it's also hinted that the star turns into an alcoholic in the movie. Interestingly, most of the dialogues that can be heard in the teaser are uttered by the character played by Vijay Sethupathi; so, Vijay's JD remains a mystery.

If there was no pandemic this year, Master would have released in April itself and a pall of gloom wouldn't have fallen on the film.

Unlike Soorarai Pottru, the biggie featuring Suriya and Aparna Balamurali, the makers of the Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi starrer have not taken the OTT route.

We also get small glances of other actors like Malavika and Gowri Kishan. The final clash between two giant stars Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi looks very exciting. But the teaser does not reveal a date for its theatrical release.

Apart from Vijay, other actors include Malavika Mohanan, Andrea Jeremiah, Shanthnu Bhagyaraj and Arjun Das, with Vijay Sethupathi playing the film's antagonist.

The action drama, with a college backdrop, has Anirudh Ravichander as composer and the film is produced by Xavier Brutto's XB Film Creators. Some of the film's songs have already become blockbusters with Anirudh's composition 'Vaathi Coming' nearing 86 million views on Youtube.

Master will be Vijay's first film to release after last year's Diwali hit Bigil, directed by Atlee, with music by AR Rahman. It's an entirely different debate as to whether that would have made business sense given the times we're living in.

In a recent interview with Film Companion South, Lokesh had clarified the delays related to the film's update. He said, "I feel I need to clarify a bit about what's happening with Master. I need to take one minute to talk about it. A lot of people have been asking for updates and all of us who are a part of the Master team have taken cognisance of these requests. It's not that we haven't seen them and it's not that we're delaying these updates purposely. The prime reason why we as makers cut a trailer or teaser is to get fans and the audiences to celebrate the star and the film. It's purely for that purpose."

He added, "Just like how there are so many fans who are disappointed in not being able to get a glimpse of the film even after waiting for so long, we too are equally or even more upset that we're not able to show anyone what we have worked so hard to create. It's a terrible feeling, and that's what we are facing right now."

"Having said that, we feel there's no logic to releasing a teaser or a trailer when there's still no clarity on when this film would finally release in theatres. Releasing a trailer at such a point will not support the film in any way. But now that we're hearing a lot of good news about theatres opening up, we too have begun to start thinking positively. The audience will keep getting regular updates from the Master team. I felt I needed to convey this to Vijay sir's fans."

The same director received a lot of praise for the teaser of Kamal Haasan's 232nd film  titled Vikram, which was also released last week.

With the release of the teaser today, an update on the release date and a possible trailer launch might also happen soon. This morning, at 4.32 AM, a teaser of TR Silambarasan's sports drama Eeswaran was also launched.

Directed by S. Suseinthiran, the sports film, with a rural backdrop, announced a release for Pongal 2021, showing signs of revival for the film industry.
