Karthik Subbaraj is all set to release his much anticipated Jigarthanda Doublex (2023), the spiritual sequel to his cult classic Jigarthanda (2014). The film stars Raghava Lawrence and SJ Suryah in the lead roles. Set in 1975, the trailer gives a glimpse into the world of this film, where Lawrence's gangster and SJ Suryah's director, who worked as Satyajit Ray's assistant team up to make a film. Lawrence aspires to become “Tamil cinema's first black hero". And the action / film begins as SJ Suryah says, "Roll, Camera, Action."
Like Jigarthanda, Jigarthanda Doublex is also expected to trace the conflicts between the star and director that snowball into a wild, action-filled adventure. But there is a villain's villain (played by Shine Tom Chacko), we are told.
The film’s caption reads, “ A Filmmaker and a Gangster Made a Film That's A Pandya Western”. It co-stars Nimisha Sajayan. Santhosh Narayanan has composed the music, while S Thirunavukkarasu has handled the cinematography. Bankrolled by Kaarthekeyen Santhanam & Kathiresan, the film is presented by Karthik Subbaraj’s own Stone Bench Films. Jigarthanda DoubleX is slated to hit the screens for this Diwali, on November 10.
