In a jewellery shop in the city centre, a man breaks open and steals jewels worth ₹200 crores. By the looks of the cunning robbery, people think the mastermind is Japan, played by Karthi. After playing the charming Vandhiyathevan in Ponniyin Selvan films, his turn as the most wanted criminal with cops from four states chasing him in Japan makes for an exciting premise. He has never been caught, a voiceover warns us in the film’s teaser. With four gold teeth, shiny chains, stashed gold biscuits and more, everything gleams in yellow for Japan. The quirky premise also seems to be aided by some witty dialogues and blazing guns in the teaser. But what happens when the cops close in on him?
Japan is directed by Raju Murugan. Apart from Karthi, the film co-stars Anu Emmanuel, Sunil and Vijay Milton. Produced by Dream Warrior Pictures, Ravi Varman has lensed the film, GV Prakash Kumar has composed the music and Philomin Raj has handled the editing. The film is slated to hit the screens this Diwali.
