Jai Bhim Teaser Talk: Suriya Plays A Principled Lawyer Fighting For Oppressed Tribals

The teaser of Suriya-starrer Jai Bhim was released today. He projects intensity and grit as an Atticus Finch-like lawyer who fights in court for oppressed people from the scheduled tribes. Right at the beginning, you hear his voice asking a woman to narrate everything that's happened to her without exaggerating or underplaying it; it looks like he's recording evidence. From then on until the end, it's Suriya who makes the teaser impactful with the conviction he puts into a role that seems fairly typical in our films: a principled savior of the downtrodden.

We get visuals of police atrocity and verbal threats to tribal people, followed by Suriya's voice that tells us that denied justice is worse than injustice. Suriya also gets a 'punchline' at the end about how there are unscrupulous people in every caste. The teaser suggests that Jai Bhim could be an emotionally-intense (and perhaps talky) courtroom drama.

A motion poster of Jai Bhim was released earlier this week, and featured visuals of the High Court in Chennai. The camera pans over pictures of great barristers from the colonial times, and moves into a lawyer's office with walls covered in books—and the Constitution of India on a desk, suggesting that the film could be about a legal battle on constitutional rights.

Sean Roldan scores the music, with cinematography and editing by SR Kathir and Philomin Raj respectively. Apart from Suriya, the film also features Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh, Rajisha Vijayan (last seen Tamil in Karnan), Manikandan and Lijomol Jose.

Jai Bhim is presented by Amazon Prime Video as a part of a four-film deal with Suriya's 2D Entertainment. Raame Aandalum Raavane Aandalum and Jyotika-starrer Udanpirappe are already available for streaming, and Oh My Dog! Is set to release in December. Produced by Jyotika and Suriya, and co-produced by Rajsekar Karpoorasundarapandian, Jai Bhim will stream on Amazon Prime Video from November 2.
