Skylab Trailer Talk: Hyper-Local Comedic Take On A Historical Event

Skylab, directed by Vishvak Khanderao, starring Nithya Menen, Satya Dev and Rahul Ramakrishna is a period entertainer set in 1979. A NASA Space Station by the same name disintegrated and it was feared that debris would fall all around the earth, endangering life. Set in the village of Bandalingampalli, the film traces the impact of this event on the village and more specifically on the three main characters – Gauri, Anand and Subedar Rama Rao.

In a teaser that launched previously, we hear a warning from NASA about the disintegration of Skylab. People from the village have lined up on the stairs of a well, looking up at the sky with anticipation as the voice on the radio says – "everyone is only speaking of one thing: Skylab, Skylab, Skylab".

The trailer gives us further insight into the characters. Gauri (Nithya Menen), is a journalist at Prathibimbam who is on the lookout for a big story. Anand (Satya Dev) is an entrepreneur with one goal, to make money. Subedar Rama Rao (Rahul Ramakrishna) is a local person in the village who Anand tries to make accomplice in his endeavour. All their problems seem to get solved with one news – Skylab. The trailer suggests that people with motives try to use this news to their advantage. So much so that a local politician is heard saying that "If we are able to nudge Skylab slightly and throw it on Pakistan, we will get rid of both Skylab and Pakistan. It's like killing two birds with a single stone" while the people of Bandalingampalli cheer on.

The film is produced by Byte Features and Nithya Menen Company. Aditya Javvadi, of the C/O Kancherapalem fame is the cinematographer, Raviteja Girijala is the editor and Prashanth R Vihari has been roped in to compose music.

The film is set to release in theatres on December 4.
