Serious Men On Netflix Trailer Talk: Nawazuddin Siddiqui Stuck Between Capitalism, Nepotism, and His Child’s Genius

Releasing on Gandhi Jayanti this year, Serious Men, based on Manu Joseph's namesake novel, is the story of Ayyan and Ojja Mani (Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Indira Tiwari), middle class Mumbaikars whose child is a genius, and thus a ticket to their upward economic mobility.

The trailer begins with a satirical, resigned ode to nepotism, how one generation's wealth and effort cascades till the fourth generation, really, doesn't have to work at all. This isn't a tale of takedown, but of aspiration, to become the boss that calls you the knobhead, and not to knob their head off. But soon their child's genius is co-opted as that of Ambedkar and Einstein and this spells trouble- politics and parenthood don't bode well together.

Directed by Sudhir Mishra, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Indira Tiwari, M. Nasser, Shweta Basu Prasad, and Aakshath Das, the film premieres on Netflix on October 2nd.
