After delivering a thriller with Maanadu, Venkat Prabhu is back to creating comedy dramas with his next Manmatha Leelai scheduled to release on April 1. Shot during the making of Maanadu, the film has the tagline – A Venkat Prabhu Quickie.

Manmadha Leelai, a film starring Kamal Haasan released in the 1970s. It goes by the storyline, 'despite being married, a womaniser continues to pursue other women'. The 2022 film with the same title directed by Venkat Prabhu seems to have taken a similar track, centred around an extra-marital affair.

The comical trailer opens up with a quote that defines the film – 'All men are as faithful as Lord Rama until proven guilty of the crime'. This adult romantic comedy stars Ashok Selvan in the lead role.

The trailer seems to roll back and forth between 2010 and 2020, citing 'Even when history repeats, boys will be boys.' With enough room for laughter, it shows us glimpses of both years, drawing parallels between what happened then and what happens now. Marking the genre, it also displays posters of STR' Manmadhan and Kamal Haasan's Manmadha Leelai.

The film is directed by Venkat Prabhu. Apart from Ashok Selvan, the film also stars Samyukta Hegde, Riya Suman, Smruthi Venkat, Premgi Amaren, Karunakaran and Jayaprakash.

The story and screenplay have been penned by Venkat Prabhu and  Manivannan Balasubramaniam. Interestingly, the music has been scored by Premgi Amaren, Venkat Prabhu's brother.

Manmatha Leelai is produced by T.Muruganantham under the banner Rockfort Entertainment LLP. It is set to release on April 1 in theatres.
