Disney Pixar released a teaser for Toy Story prequel Lightyear, giving us our first look at Chris Evans voicing the beloved character. Talking about the teaser, he said, "The phrase 'a dream come true' gets thrown around a lot, but I have never meant it more in my life. Anyone who knows me knows that my love for animate films runs deep. I can't believe that I get to be a part of the Pixar family and work with these truly brilliant artists who tell stories unlike anyone else. Watching them work is nothing short of magic. I pinch myself every day." While the film is an original story that exists outside the Toy Story universe, the teaser has some elements that connect them. The iconic green-and-white spacesuit is seen, Lightyear smirking at it with an ambitious glint in his eyes. There is also the catchphrase, cut off by the teaser ending, something that Pixar seems to have borrowed from Chris Evans's stint as Captain America.
Lightyear is the origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the space ranger toy that audiences know and love from the Toy Story franchise. This film follows Lightyear, the pilot, on a sci-fi adventure to infinity and beyond, showing us the story behind the legend. The film is directed by Annie award-winning director and experienced Pixar animator Angus MacLane (Finding Dory). The movie releases in theaters in the summer of 2022.
