Jersey Trailer Talk: Shahid Kapoor As Former Cricketer Looking To Regain Lost Glory

The second trailer of Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur's Jersey is finally here with a disheveled, worn out 36-year old (Kapoor) hoping to regain his lost glory as a former star batsman. His wife Vidya (Thakur) tells him that he had his time, which is now over. He is then seen having a similar conversation with his young son, who tells him to do as his heart pleases, and that looking at him playing cricket makes him a hero in his eyes. The child's words of innocent encouragement drive Kapoor to set out on what looks like a herculean task – regain what was once his in a world that otherwise constantly sends roadblocks your way, pursue what made him truly happy and ultimately, make his son proud.

The trailer jumps back and forth in time, hinting that he had chosen to leave his seemingly successful professional life after unforeseen circumstances and clashes started to affect his personal life.

The sports drama, also starring Pankaj Kapur, Shishir Sharma and Sharad Kelkar, was earlier slated for an August 2020 release before its post-production faced a delay due to the pandemic. It was then scheduled to release on December 31 last year but faced another delay within days of its release due to the rise in Omicron cases.

The film is an official remake of the 2019 Telugu-language blockbuster of the same name, starring Nani and Shraddha Srinath. It went on to win two National Awards, including Best Feature Film (Telugu) and Best Editing (by Naveen Nooli).

Written and directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri (the maker of the original Jersey), and produced by Allu Aravind, Aman Gill, Dil Raju, and Suryadevara Naga Vamsi, the film releases theatrically on April 14. It will be distributed by Balaji Telefilms and Pen Marudhar Entertainment.
