De De Pyaar De Trailer Talk: Another On-Brand Luv Ranjan Relationship Comedy

The trailer for the latest Luv Ranjan film has dropped. This one he's co-written and produced but it's very much in the same vein as his previous films. Upbeat, high-energy, relationship-focused comedies which focus on the plights of men.

Ajay Devgn is Ashish – a 50-year-old man (aimed to be a big statement about the actor playing his own age). Rakul Preet Singh (previously seen in films like Yaariyan and Aiyaary) is Ayesha – a 26-year-old woman. The two fall in love in London – the only place mainstream comedies (Mubarakaan, Namaste England) seem to be set these days.

All the two need to be together, we are told, are the blessings of Ashish's family. This includes his ex-wife played by Tabu and their children, both of whom are in their 20's. An additional family member who features prominently in the trailer is Alok Nath (who was also in Ranjan's previous film Sonu Ki Titu Ki Sweety). Clearly, all the turbulent #MeToo allegations surrounding the actor have not deterred the filmmakers from casting him, and proudly including him in the promotions.

De De Pyaar De is the directorial debut of editor Akiv Ali, who has worked in more than 30 films in his career thus far including Kaabil, Barfi, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and more. The focus of the story centres on all the hilarity that comes with dating someone your kids' age which then nicely sets up an arc of the ex-wife and new girlfriend fighting over leading man. Perfectly on-brand with Luv Ranjan's school of storytelling.

De De Pyaar De releases on May 17th.
