An ancient Devi. The earth is her womb, from which the 16 crore gods and goddesses were born…
Thus begins the teaser of Tumbbad, accompanied by visuals of a stormy, rural Maharashtra and a man (Sohum Shah) telling the story to a small boy with a shaved head.
There is a fortress, and there are some deep, dark secrets buried within.
The teaser of Rahi Anil Barve’s horror fantasy doesn’t give away much but sets the mood. The period film, which has undergone a prolonged production, is now ready for release in October. Before that, it will have a screening at the Venice Film Festival beginning at the end of this month.
Owing to its changing hands with producers and writers, the film now has an unusually long lost of collaborators. Adesh Prasad is credited as co-director, while writers include Mitesh Shah, Adesh Prasad, Barve, and Anand Gandhi (who also gets the Executive Producer and Creative Director credit).
Tumbbad is shot by Pankaj Kumar (Ship of Theseus, Haider). It is produced by Sohum Shah, Aanand L Rai, Mukesh Shah and Amita Shah.
