In the teaser for Toofaan, we meet Aziz Ali (Farhan Akhtar), who spends his time beating people up. That means he has two options in life: either he becomes Ajju bhai the gangster, or he streamlines himself and becomes Aziz Ali the boxer. This choice is delivered to him by his lady love, played by Mrunal Thakur. His coach (Paresh Rawal) also asks him whether he wants to become a boxer simply to continue beating people up. The teaser tells us (as sounds of boxing gloves meeting punching bags create a kind of percussion), ‘Remember you always have a choice.’
Akhtar, sporting an impressively built physique, is shown training furiously, interspersed with shots of him in the boxing ring. There’s also Vijay Raaz, who appears to play some sort of gangster himself, instructing Aziz to look his opponents in the eye so fiercely that they pee their pants in fear.
The film is directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, and co-stars Supriya Pathak, Husain Dalal, Darshan Kumaar and Mohan Agashe. Originally meant for a theatrical release, Toofaan (which finished shooting almost exactly when the lockdown was announced last year) will be released straight to Prime Video on May 21st.
