Reliance Entertainment has released the trailer of its upcoming sports drama Saandh Ki Aankh.
The trailer opens with filmmaker Prakash Jha (in another acting turn) saying guns are no joke and only suited to men – encapsulating the spirit of this rousing true story of two elderly women from Uttar Pradesh’s Johri village who took up shooting at the age of 50 and learned to be exceptional sharpshooters. Playfully nicknamed the ‘shooter-daadis’, the duo went on to win over 350 medals and continue to be professional shooters to this day.
With unquestionable aim and questionable prosthetics, we are shown how both women (played by Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar) appear to have an immediate affinity for shooting and hitting their mark right from their first attempt. When jokingly asked about what they eat in response to seeing their talent, ‘gaali’ comes the response. A moment that indicates how they go on to use years of oppression to fuel their spirits and take them to victory and national fame.
Despite glimpses of violence in their village, the film’s tone appears to be more of a feel-good story of success despite all odds, with Mukkabaaz‘s Vineet Singh as their supportive coach urging them on.
The film by director Tushar Hiranandani releases this Diwali.
