pati patni aur woh trailer review kartik aaryan

In 1978 director B R Chopra’s hit film Pati Patni Aur Woh was a comedy about a man who cheats on his wife with his secretary, leading to a comedy of errors and the apparent hilarity that comes with infidelity. For some reason in 2019 directors think this is the film that needs to be remade in today’s day and age, updated with the treatment of a well-packaged sex comedy.

This trailer starts off by introducing us to the titular Pati in question, Kartik Aaryan, and opens with him making one of his token Pyaar Ka Punchnama-style ‘men are the real victims’ rants which I assume is now built into his contract to deliver in every film. Next we are introduced to the salwar-kurta wearing Patni – Bhumi Pednekar who we think deserves better. Then finally we meet the more urban-looking Woh – Student Of The Year 2‘s Ananya Pandey, who becomes the catalyst of his infidelity. Lastly, there is the always the reliable hero’s best friend in Aparshakti Khuranna. He’s there to amp up the double meaning banter.

While it’s perfectly possible that writer-director Mudassar Aziz tried to handle the topic of infidelity with some sensitivity and that there’s more to it than the trailer suggests, one wonders they put the most troubling scenes in the trailer.

What’s clear is that Pati Patni Aur Woh promises to be the mystery film of the year. The mystery being, why would would anyone choose to remake this story in this day and age? We’ll know on December 6th. You can watch the trailer below:
