Housefull 4 Trailer Talk: Baahubali Meets A Blundering Comedy Of Errors

There are countless films riding the BaahubaliBhansali wave of period-epics right now. But it's unlikely anyone would've predicted that the next on that list would be a Housefull movie. The trailer for Housefull 4 is here.

In what's being called 'an epic reincarnation comedy', the film takes place in two timelines, one in a Bajirao Mastani-esque Maratha court (with Akshay Kumar looking exactly like Ranveer Singh in that film) and the other in the present day.

The plot? 6 lovers in the year 1419 (Akshay Kumar, Kriti Sanon, Riteish Deshmukh, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Kriti Kharbanda) are reincarnated and reunite in the present day. The twist being they're all marrying the wrong person within the group and need to reshuffle and align themselves up with their true loves.  'Will they remember their past lives in time for marriage or will they be stuck with the wrong lovers forever?' is the riveting question we're asked. Still, it might be fun to see some comedy infused into the period setting which is being taken far too seriously these days.

What's more, the film has demanded the expertise of a team of 8 writers with various bizarre titles. Sara Bodinar and Sajid Nadiadwala serve as 'Lead Writer And Story'. The essential function of 'Screenplay And Scenario' comes from Aakash Kaushik and Madhur Sharma. And to round off the list 'Additional Screenplay' has been credited to Farhad Samji, Tushar Hiranandani, Sparsh Khetarpal and Tasha Bhambra.

Partial period setting aside, the various glimpses of the gags the trailer gives us makes it clear that the film is very much in keeping with the Housefull brand of humour. Throw in, of course, the dependable set of supporting cast members in Chunky Pandey and Johnny Lever as well as new additions in Rana Daggubati and Nawaazuddin Siddiqui (here seen poking fun at his own Ganesh Gaitonde).  It's also curious to see Akshay Kumar return to the slapstick space, given his recent reinvention over the last few years. Ironically, the actor hasn't been seen in this space since the previous instalment in 2016.

While the trailer has the film credited to director Farhad Samji, it was previously helmed by Sajid Khan who's reported to have shot the majority of the film before being removed following a MeToo allegation.

The film will release on October 25th. You can watch the trailer below:
