Gold Trailer Talk: Akshay Kumar Invokes Patriotic Pride In Hockey Drama

It's the season for inspiring, real-life tales of hockey players. A few weeks ago we got the trailer of Shaad Ali's Soorma, in which Diljit Dosanjh plays former hockey captain Sandeep Singh. In writer-director Reema Kagti's Gold, we back track to pre-Independence India and a dhoti-clad Bengali coach's struggle to build the hockey team that went on to win the first Olympic gold for an independent India, in 1948. In the trailer we see Akshay Kumar as Tapan Das, speaking in a Bengali accent that doesn't feel too convincing. We see him band together a team of players by inspiring them with patriotic lines like 'unke desh main, unhi ke public ke saamne, unke king ke aage, unhi ko harayega'.

The film has a large supporting cast that includes Kunal Kapoor, Vineet Kumar Singh, Sunny Kaushal, Amit Sadh and Mouni Roy. It fittingly releases on 15th August, Independence Day. The movie has been produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment.
