Bunty Aur Babli 2 Trailer Talk: Rani Mukerji and Saif Ali Khan Facing A Generational Challenge, Film Companion

Bunty Aur Babli, the 2005 crime comedy following the titular fashion faux-pas con artists, has a spiritual sequel. This time round, Abhishek Bachchan who played Bunty in the 2005 film is replaced by Saif Ali Khan, opposite Rani Mukerji, still Babli. They have aged, with greys and paunches, with a child, having left their thieving behind.

But a younger generation has put them back on their feet. Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari (who makes her debut) play the younger couple, using the Bunty and Babli trademark to carry out their heists. The older generation, in trying to reclaim their brand, lashes out, and a comic intergenerational con artist play-off is promised. Pankaj Tripathi takes up after Amitabh Bachchan’s role in the OG Bunty Aur Babli, the wily police officer in leather jackets.

The film’s release was postponed by the pandemic, and YRF’s staunch support of theatrical releases over streaming. Written and directed by Varun Sharma, produced by Aditya Chopra, the film releases in theaters on November 19.
