Atrangi Re Trailer Talk: A Forced Wedding, A Magician And A Love Story

After the success of Raanjhanaa, Aanand L. Rai and Dhanush have teamed up for the second time in the upcoming film, Atrangi Re. A romantic dramedy, the trailer begins with Vishu (Dhanush) getting kidnapped and being forced into a wedding mandap. His bride is an uninhibited Rinku (Sara Ali Khan), who wishes to lead a life on her own terms. As fate would have it, she ends up getting forcefully married, in a seemingly drugged state.

As they are sent off to Delhi, where Vishu lives, they realize their unwillingness to take their marriage forward. They decide to start afresh, with the trailer hinting at Rinku going back to college to complete her education and Dhanush moving on to start a new relationship, getting engaged to someone else. However, a series of events lead them to bond, even as neither accept (nor deny) their nuptials. There enters the magician (Akshay Kumar) atop an elephant, who seems to share a deep bond with Rinku. This makes Vishu jealous, as he confronts her, asking for a divorce. She, on the other hand, refuses – indecisive over her fondness for both men in her life.

The musical brings together the combination of AR Rahman and Irshad Kamil back on celluloid. The duo had previously created memorable soundtracks in several films, including Tamasha (2015) and Rai's earlier release (and Dhanush's Hindi film debut), Raanjhanaa (2013). Scheduled to release earlier this year on Valentine's Day, the film's post-production got delayed due to the pandemic.

Directed by Rai and written by Himanshu Sharma, the film, produced by T-Series, Colour Yellow Productions and Cape of Good Films, premieres on Disney+ Hotstar on December 24.
