Bagheera Trailer Talk: Prabhu Deva Plays A Manmadhan-Like Serial Killer

The trailer of Adhik Ravichandran's Bagheera, starring Prabhu Deva, was released today. Right at the beginning, we are told that Prabhu Deva's Bagheera is a serial killer with mental health issues. He seems to have been cast from the same mould as the jilted-lover-turned-murderer character from Manmadhan. We also meet Prabhu Deva in a female avatar — and she calls herself Prabhu Devi.

After our introductions to Bagheera and Prabhu Devi, we get glimpses of Prabhu Deva as an iyengar with a pigtail, a lawyer, a character without a moustache, and a character seen wearing only bathrobes and shades (but with a moustache). Bagheera's voiceover rings through the trailer — supposedly — as a beacon of hope for men: when women cry, women's organizations come to their rescue; but when men cry, Bagheera will come. It looks like Bagheera is both a men's rights activist and a psycho killer.

The teaser of the film, released in February, showed Prabhu Deva's Bagheera as he escapes from an asylum, and hunts his victims down wearing spectacles with three eye pieces, presumably because he's three people inside — Prabhu, Deva and Bagheera. We also see Prabhu Deva in different get ups as a doctor, lawyer, rockstar, a woman, and a 'kickass lover' (as the teaser puts it).

The film directed by Adhik Ravichandran is dubbed an 'Adhik Ravi Pain KILLER'. The star cast includes Prabhu Deva, Amyra Dastur, Gopinath Ravi, Nassar, Sakshi Agarwal, Janani Iyer, Remya Nambeesan, Sanchita Shetty and Gayathrie. Cinematography is by Abinandhan Ramanujam, music by Ganesan Sekhar, and editing by Ruben.

Bagheera is Adhik Ravichandran's next after 2017 Simbu-starrer Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan. He also played minor roles in Ajith's Nerkonda Paarvai and K-13, starring Arulnithi and Shraddha Srinath. Produced by RV Bharathan for Bharathan Pictures and co-produced by SVR Ravi Shankar, Bagheera releases in theatres soon.
