The Sky Is Pink Trailer Talk: Priyanka Chopra Returns To Hindi Films With A Love Story For The Ages

There's a bit in the trailer of The Sky is Pink which takes you back to another crackling scene featuring Priyanka Chopra Jonas – the one where a young and naive Sweety in Vishal Bhardwaj's Kaminey realises she's pregnant. Here too, there seems to be an unplanned pregnancy. She chides her partner, played by Farhan Akhtar, saying 'Kahaan tha tumse. Zyaada smart mat bano. Pehen lo condom.'

The Sky is Pink traces the love story of these two characters from their early dating days to when they're older and coping with the pain of a dying child. The child is played by Zaira Wasim (Dangal, Secret Superstar). She introduces herself as the villain of this love story. Wasim's character is based on Ayesha Chaudhary – an 18 year old motivational speaker and author who died of a fatal lung disease.

Writer and director Shonali Bose (Margarita With A Straw) has said in interviews that she was motivated to make this film when she met Ayesha's parents after her death. Bose, whose own marriage ended after she lost her teenage son some years ago, immediately connected with the family's story.

The film is currently playing at the Toronto International Film Festival and will release in India on 11th October.  The  Sky is Pink has been produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Ronnie Screwvala. It also marks Chopra's return to a Hindi film after three years.
