There is a huge buzz around Nani's milestone 25th film V, which now directly releases on Amazon Prime Video, on September 5. It was originally slated to release in March, but the lockdown delayed it. The film also stars Sudheer Babu, Aditi Rao Hydari and Nivetha Thomas, and is directed by Mohan Krishna Indraganti.
Yesterday, Nani hinted at an announcement, popcorn in hand, mentioning that while the times were different and the theatre can't come home, the theatrical experience can. He said he could now watch a film, and then re-watch it again when it ended.
Today, the team, including producer Dil Raju's Sri Venkateswara Creations and actor Nani, announced on social media that the film will release directly on Amazon Prime Video. The film brings together the director and actor who earlier collaborated on Nani's debut Ashta Chamma and Gentleman. Nani plays an antagonist for the first time in his career in V.
Nani's performance in Jersey was much spoken about last year, and Gang Leader won its fair share of praise too.
Sudheer Babu and Aditi Rao Hydari starred in the director's Sammohanam, and Nivetha Thomas was a part of his Gentleman.
On Thursday, Nani took to social media and wrote "To my fans, well wishers and extended family here… These are not regular times and this is not going to be a regular experience. My 25th is special and now it will be even more for so many reasons. Let's make it a memorable one. Let's celebrate V this September 5th. These 12 years you came to the theatres for me and it's time I come home and say thank you! I will be as excited and nervous to hear from you all on the release day. PS: When theatres open, Tuck Jagadish will take over. Promise!", and added "V is coming home. September 5th… The Hunt is On!"
Till date, V is the biggest Telugu film going straight to an OTT platform. It is expected that this might nudge other filmmakers whose films are ready and unable to release to consider the idea. Recent Telugu direct OTT releases Uma Maheshwara Ugra Roopasya and Krishna and His Leela have been received very well.
Nani is currently shooting for Tuck Jagadish with director Shiva Nirvana and promises his fans that the film will release in theatres once they reopen.
