Favourite Harry Potter Movie: Sirius Black And His Legacy Make Order Of The Phoenix Special

Therapy is expensive, so I watch Harry Potter instead. Each Potter movie is dear to me. It is not just the characters who grow over the time but also the actors playing them and the audience watching them. A sort of emotional and sentimental bond gets formed with them. And with each film you find something new to learn and someone dear to love. I found that something and someone in the same movie, in the same person: Sirius Black. It's interesting that the person you love and care about the most is merely a fleeting part of your life. And that's exactly what Sirius Black was to Harry Potter. And to us. He was there only for a few moments and gone in the next. And yet, in such a short time, he left behind a legacy, a belief, a philosophy that I'll always be grateful for.

The Order of the Phoenix is special in the entire series because it doesn't just limit itself to the story of the titular character. It goes beyond and takes a closer look, even if just a short one, into other characters' lives. Like Sirius Black. Feeling suffocated in his own family due to their obsession with being pureblood, Sirius runs away from home and takes shelter at the Potters'. This is where he develops an intimate friendship with Harry's father James and eventually becomes Harry's godfather. Luna Lovegood is quite an interesting character too. She has also lost her mother and seen death, just like Harry. She, too, sees things and hears voices that are not there. But she is also quite annoyingly positive about life, unlike Harry. Neville Longbottom might come off as simple and unimportant at first. But, in this movie, we learn that it isn't just Harry but also Neville who's a threat to the Dark Lord. Probably the most shocking thing we learn is about Severus Snape. Since Snape was timid and shy and had feelings for Lily, he was bullied and humiliated by James. Harry learns that his father wasn't always as righteous and kind as he had thought. And Snape was not really a cruel person. Also, J.K. Rowling must have been clairvoyant for she knew how a government, even if it was a magical one, would react when faced with a fear beyond their control. Ain't much of a difference between Dolores Umbridge and the government in power.

Harry Potter is quite evidently and rightly so a story of good winning over evil. And there are hundreds of movies doing the very same thing every day. But this particular instalment in the series did it quite accurately and memorably. At the end of the movie, Voldemort finally takes over Harry and tries to break him from within. Voldemort calls him weak and helpless but Dumbledore reminds Harry it isn't how they are alike, it's how they are not. It's like Sirius Black said, "We have all got light and dark inside of us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are." And in that moment, along with Harry, we all realise that it isn't he who is weak, it's Voldemort. We don't hate him anymore but pity him. For he will never know love, or friendship or family. He will never care for anyone. He will never know what it's like to fight and die for something you hold dear. Because we all have light and dark inside of us and we might choose to act on either one but Voldemort doesn't have light in him. And there's no bigger curse than that.

It is in dark times such as this, that we should try to honour Sirius Black's legacy and remember his mantra. I did and it has made all the difference. And that is why, not because of Harry Potter, but because of Sirius Black, the Order of the Phoenix will always remain my favourite Harry Potter movie.
