Sunny Deol reacts to Gadar 2’s clash with Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 on August 11

Gadar 2 starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, and OMG 2 which has Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam Dhar in the lead roles, are both releasing theatrically on August 11 this year. 

Reacting to this highly anticipated box office clash Deol said, "Gadar did 100 crore plus, while Lagaan did much lesser. I don’t understand why people compare – whether it’s from the business or likeability point. Gadar didn’t have the perception, people thought it is this masala film, yeh purani type ki picture hai, purane type ke gaane hai(This is an old-fashioned film with old-fashioned songs). The so-called people who talk about films had run down Gadar completely. It went on to become a people’s film, and they loved it.”

Deol added, “There is no comparison, but people like to do it. What I am trying to say is that jo film zyada acchi hoti hai phir bhi aap usko doosre films ke barabari mein le aatey ho. Jis cheez ki barabari nahin hai, mat karo.” (Even if a film is good you try to compare it to other movies. There is no point in comparing things that have nothing in common)

Gadar 2 is a sequel to Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001). The film, directed and produced by Anil Sharma, will see Deol, Patel and Utkarsh Sharma reprise their roles. OMG 2 is a spiritual sequel to OMG (2012). Tripathi and Dhar join Kumar as new cast members in the comedy-drama directed by Amit Rai.
