Siddharth Roy Kapur: ‘I was blown Away by Nagraj Manjule’s work’

In a recent interview with Film Companion, Siddharth Roy Kapur spoke about the upward trajectory of Indian films including the South Indian language films, at the box office especially after the pandemic. The change that streaming has brought to the way viewers wish to consume content online. The producer who owns Roy Kapur Films also opened up on his upcoming projects being Deva with Shahid Kapoor and Pooja Hegde and a web show, Matka King starring Vijay Varma. He also said how eager he was to collaborate with Nagraj Manjule after he had watched the 2014 Marathi blockbuster Sairat.

“We have got a show that we are doing called Matka King which goes on to Amazon [Prime Video] which starts in June so Nagraj Manjule who I wanted to work with, since I saw Sairat (2016) and was blown away by it and was an incredible film and I was talking to Nagraj since then. So glad that Nagraj and I are doing that together. It is a fascinating story about the origins of Matka in the country.”

Kapur who has been the former Managing Director of The Walt Disney Company India and UTV Motion Pictures has produced films like Jagga Jasoos (2017), Barfi (2012), Dangal (2016) among a long list of films.
