In conversation with Anupama Chopra during the Front Row session, Vicky Kaushal opened up about his role in his upcoming biopic film Sam Bahadur, directed by Meghna Gulzar. The actor said that his role in the film was one of the toughest of all the characters he has played onscreen till date.

Sam Bahadur is the toughest role I have gotten to do and about probably the greatest man I have come to know of, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw,” Kaushal said.

“I had heard about him from my dad and mom who have lived the 1971 war in Punjab but only briefly but then when I got to hear the script from Meghna, read material on him, get to meet his family and just interact with the army about him. She told me one thing that they don't make men like him anymore and that's true, they just don't. It's the toughest, I'm very happy that I got to wear the army uniform again but to wear the uniform of Sam Manekshaw is a completely different ballgame and I can't wait for that film to come out.”

Directed by Gulzar, Sam Bahadur also stars Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub and Neeraj Kabi in key roles. The film releases in theatres on December 1.
