Prithviraj Sukumaran has been busy wearing the director’s hat for his tentpole project Empuraan (2025), a sequel to his debut directorial effort Lucifer (2019). The film, which features Mohanlal in the titular role, just completed the third schedule of the film in the US. The actor/director took to his social media pages to share the updates on the wrapping up of the film’s biggest schedule in the US which has been going on for the last one month in various parts of New Mexico and West Coast. The film is touted to be the biggest production from Malayalam cinema, that has been shot across many locations including Manali, Abhu Dhabhi, UK and US.

The team of Empuraan will be moving next to Chennai, where they will shoot the next schedule, before moving back to Kerala where the rest of the film is expected to be shot. Empuraan is a prequel story on the life and times of Stephen Nedumpally aka Khureshi-Ab’raam, the international arms dealer and mystery figure played by Mohanlal who is supposed to be in cohorts with the major international crime syndicates.

Empuraan will reportedly feature Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran and a hoast of major stars from all around the country, whose names have still been kept under wraps by the team as of now. The film penned by Murali Gopy will have music by Deepak Dev. Sujith Vaasudev cranks the camera for the big budget action flick bankrolled jointly by Aashirvad Cinemas and Lyca Productions. Empuraan is expected to complete its final schedule by August and hit the theatres by the end of this year or beginning of next year.
