Mission Raniganj will be released in theatres on October 6. The film is based on a true incident that happened in 1989, where Jaswant Singh Gill, a mining engineer at the Raniganj Coalfields in West Bengal, rescued 65 miners trapped 350 feet below the ground

While Akshay Kumar plays Gill's role, Parineeti Chopra plays his wife in the film. As per a report in Bollywood Hungama, the actress's role in the film is an extended special appearance. A source told the portal, “The film is about a group of miners stuck in a mine. Time is running out and they need to be rescued before they perish. In such a scenario, the makers had to focus on the principal track to keep the interest and tension levels high. Hence, there’s very little focus on Parineeti Chopra’s track. Her screen time is around 10 minutes.”

The source added, “But hers is a crucial character. And the makers were keen to have a strong performer like Parineeti Chopra for the part. She also understood the importance of her character and willingly came on board.”

Chopra and Kumar have appeared together in Kesari (2019) where Kumar played a Sardar in the Sikh Regiment of the British Indian Army and Chopra played his wife in a cameo appearance.

Mission Raniganj is directed by Tinu Suresh Desai and produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, Jackky Bhagnani and Ajay Kapoor.
