20 Days of Mariupol, a war documentary based on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has won the 96th Academy Awards in the Best Documentary Feature Film category.

While receiving the award on stage, the film’s director Mstyslav Chernov said, "Probably I will be the first director on this stage who will say, 'I wish I never made this film,'" director Mstyslav Chernov said while accepting the award. "I wish to be able to exchange this (for) Russia never attacking Ukraine, never occupying our cities." He said this is the first Oscar won in Ukraine's history, "I'm honored," Chernov concluded.

The film’s win received a standing ovation from the crowd in the Dolby Theatres.
