Kiara Advani at Cannes 2024: If I don’t have agency in the film, I would never be a part of it’

Kiara Advani made her Cannes film festival debut wearing an ivory coloured gown by designer Parul Gurung. The actress is at Cannes for Red Sea Film Foundation’s Women in Cinema Gala Dinner, and spoke exclusively to Film Companion about her experience at the international film festival. She also opened up how important screen space is for her in movies and she would never be a part of a film where in her role is of no prominence to the story.

“If I don’t have agency in the film. I would never want to be a part of a film where if you take my character out of the film the story can move forward. So I wouldn’t do that so in Shankar sir’s film I mean it's early it's yet to come out so I think we should chat when its out but there’s a lot of agency and there’s a big driving force.”

Talking about doing a massy song and larger than life film, she said, “Yes, may be the lyrics and the songs do happen to sometimes have different meanings or can be interpreted differently but for me it was actually very fun to do a massy song, I have never done in my life and I think I’ve gotten the most calls after this song because no one’s seen me going that full all out. You see the heroes usually do it so it was a lot of fun.”

Advani was last seen alongside Kartik Aaryan in Satyaprem Ki Katha (2023). She will next be seen in filmmaker Shankar’s Game Changer with Ram Charan. Also, the actress has signed for the next in the Don franchise Don 3 and War 2 from Aditya Chopra’s spy universe.

Advani was in Cannes as a spotlight honouree for the Red Sea International Film Festival.
