Kamal Haasan's upcoming Thug Life seems to be getting bigger by the day. The Mani Ratnam directorial already has thespian Haasan starring alongside Mani Ratnam alums such as Jayam Ravi, Dulquer Salmaan, and Trisha Krishnan. Now, the makers have announced that Malayalam actor Joju George and Tamil actor Gautham Karthik will also feature in the gangster action film. Karthik reunites with Mani Ratnam after his debut film Kadal (2013).
The hype for Thug Life began when it was announced after Vikram (2022) that Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam would reunite after more than three decades. Their last collaboration was the iconic gangster drama Nayakan (1987). The title of the collaboration was announced as Thug Life along with a teaser that hinted at Haasan playing the role of an ageing gangster who had ties with the Japanese Mafia. The teaser also announced the rest of the cast.
Thug Life is directed by Mani Ratnam who co-writes the film along with Kamal Haasan. It is backed by both of their home production houses Madras Talkies and Raajkamal Films International along with Udhyanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies. The film is also said to star Nasser and Abhiraami, who reunites with Kamal Haasan after Virumandi (2004). AR Rahman provides the music while Ravi K Chandran handles the cinematography. Anbariv are the stunt coordinators in the film after collaborating with Haasan previously in Vikram.
