As per a report in Bollywood Hungama, Farhan Akhtar is in talks to star in the Hindi remake of the Hollywood film Begin Again.  The film premiered on September 7, 2013, at the Toronto International Film Festival and was released theatrically in the United States on June 27, 2014. The remake will be produced by Vikram Malhotra’s Abundantia Entertainment and directed by Nitya Mehra. The makers are reportedly in the process of completing formalities, after which an official announcement will be made.

Sharing an update about his upcoming films as an actor, Akhtar said in a recent interview with Khaleej Times, "I'm also doing two films next year before we get into Don 3, as an actor. In January, I will start a film that is being produced by Aamir Khan Productions. It's being directed by RS Prasanna, who directed Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017). He's a great director. Then I will do another film for Excel Entertainment, which will start roughly in June or July. And then I get into directing Don 3."

Begin Again tells the story of singer and music composer Gretta James (Keira Knightley), who meets a struggling record label executive Dan Mulligan (Mark Ruffalo) at a bar in New York, soon after her break up with long-time boyfriend Dave Kohl (Adam Levine). Mulligan recognises the potential in James’ music and the two collaborate on creating an album of original songs together, while also transforming each other’s lives at a personal level.

Akhtar will direct and co-produce Don 3 which begins filming in 2025.
