Legendary singer Asha Bhosle celebrated her 90th birthday on September 8. In an interview with the Bombay Times, Bhosle said that she remains active and energetic even today because she doesn't feel a day over 40. The singer said, "I feel the person who keeps his age in mind becomes old. I still don’t feel that I am a day older than 40. It’s only when I see my children, grandkids, and great-grandkids that I realise that so much time has gone by."

Bhosle shared that she enjoys travelling, cooking and interacting with the audience during her shows. She added that if she gets time, she likes entertaining the crowd with jokes and magic tricks in between her performance.

In the same interview Bhosle also commented on old Hindi films songs getting remixed, the number of songs being reduced in Hindi films and also shared an anecdote about how she came to sing the song 'Kahin aag lag lage lag jave' for the film Taal (1999). Bhosle revealed that she was the 14th singer to sing for the album and added, "Subhash Ghai had narrated this story in front of 400 students and had said that he was the one who told them to get Asha to eventually sing it."

Bhosle first film song was 'Chala Chala Nav Bala' for the Marathi film Majha Bal (1943) when she was just 10 years old. Since then she has recorded over 12,000 songs in her eight-decade-long career. Bhosle was married to music composer RD Burman with whom she collaborated on many successful songs. She has been awarded with the Padma Vibhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Awards in addition to multiple National Film Awards, Filmfare Awards and Maharashtra State Film Awards.
