Shweta Tripathi Sharma On Her Five Favourite TV Shows

Actress Shweta Tripathi Sharma, most recently seen in Cargo on Netflix, lists her five favourite TV shows and tells us how they've impacted her. From action adventures to comedy to sci-fi horror, here's her list:

Stranger Things

"I think the most beautiful part about Stranger Things is that the story is very simple and not complicated. The primary characters includes 5 to 6 children and yet it's not a children's series. They don't show the children to be kiddish, in fact, one of my friends was even scared to watch it. Watching Stranger Things made me feel a lot of things. Not just the story, but other aspects such as the music, the colour palette and even the costumes are extremely appealing. When all of these come together, that's when magic happens." 

The Marvelous Mrs Maisel

"I love it when stories motivate and inspire you. This show is also about thinking outside the box. It goes onto say that just because you are married or a wife or a mother, doesn't mean you can't have dreams. In fact, it emphasises the aspect that age doesn't define your dreams. In life there will always be people to push you down but there will always be people to support you as well. I think that has been captured very well in Marvellous Mrs. Maisel. Also, when you watch shows from across the world you realise that the issues are more or less the same."

The Newsroom

"The Newsroom portrays exactly what is happening right now. The beauty of a show is that it will always be relevant. I think our media is not doing the best job. Media journalists and anchors have a lot of power which are being mis-used by most of them. Even the stories that are being highlighted right now are so sad. In the starting sequence of the show, the lead character is asked why America is the greatest country in the world and he says it is not. I think that is very important in today's time that you don't have to speak what everybody says and what everybody wants to listen to. You have to speak your mind."

The Family Man

"When Mirzapur came out, it had received a lot of accolades and we were all so proud. Then The Family Man released and I didn't see it for a very long time. I went for an OTT award function where The Family Man won quite a few awards and I wondered why the show is so popular. When I saw it, I fell in love with the story and the characters and the simplicity with which it was shot. For instance, whenever there is a conversation between the lead couple in the house, we feel that we are in the room with them. The way this series was shot is stunning. Even the performances are amazing! The Family Man also showed us the other side as well. For instance, when you see Moosa's backstory, you feel that you are partially responsible for it."

Killing Eve

"While we were shooting Mirzapur, Ali Fazal kept recommending the show to me and I absolutely loved it. I want to play the assassin too like Sandra Oh's character. I think the beauty of the show is that you don't have one favourite character. You want to know what is happening in everyone's life and what are they feeling. That relationship is so complicated and can never be defined. They are obsessed with each other and yet there are hints of a love-hate relationship as well."
