Lust Stories Directors On Their Biggest Pet Peeves On Set, Film Companion

Ahead of the release of Lust Stories on Netflix, we asked the four directors of the omnibus – Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap – about what annoys them most on a film set.

Karan Johar: When actors don’t know their lines. It just bothers me to no end because I think that’s the basic pre-requisite of performance. You can act all you want and do all your nuances, but you have to know your lines. I can’t bear people who keep fumbling on dialogue. It really bothers me. Even if it’s the biggest star in the country, I will curse him or her.

Dibakar Banerjee: Cell phones.

Zoya Akhtar: I work a lot with ensembles and I can’t bear actors who are camera hogs. I don’t like it when actors don’t have the grace or the patience to allow their co-actor to take a scene, even if it is theirs. It annoys me, puts the co-actor in a negative space, and then you have to go in there and scold them!

Anurag Kashyap: Bad food. Baaki sab chalta hai. I rarely get sets so over the years that becomes your way of working. But khaana sahi hona chahiye. I’m talking about bad quality food that makes you fall sick.
