Ghost Stories Trailer Talk: Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee Reunite For Spooky Anthology

A young couple's wedding night is interrupted by the ghost of the groom's grandmother. He (Avinash Tiwary) is unfazed. "Just say good night," he advises his bride (Mrunal Thakur). She, more understandably, is horrified.

After Bombay Talkies in 2013 and Lust Stories in 2018, directors Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee reunite for a third anthology, Ghost Stories.

While Johar has helmed the ghostly grandmother segment, Akhtar's features a young nurse, Sameera (Janhvi Kapoor), and her invalid patient (Surekha Sikri). Strange knocks at the door begin to rattle the women soon enough. Sobhita Dhulipala plays a pregnant woman in Kashyap's black-and-white short, replete with eerie shots of her feeding dolls and watching cracked eggs drip onto a table. "Papa, jab maasi ki baby aayega, maasi mujh ko pyaar nahi karegi?" her nephew asks.

Banerjee's portion seems to be set in a town mostly populated by children. When one of their fathers is eaten by an unidentified creature, they devise a set of rules to stay alive, including keeping the town in darkness and staying still no matter what they see.

The trailer also features closeups of screaming faces, a man dropping a baby and a strange crow-like creature. Ghost Stories will release on Netflix on January 1.
