A Look At The Indian Films At The Toronto International Film Festival 2019

From The Sky Is Pink to Moothon, we list the Indian titles that have been announced so far at TIFF 2019

One of the biggest film events of the year, the Toronto International Film Festival has announced its 2019 line-up and to the joy of Indian cinephiles, this edition will once again see a number of Indian films feature at the festival across various sections. Based on the line-up announced thus far, this year will see four Indian features at the festival, three of which will be World Premieres.

Bombay Rose

Director: Gitanjali Rao

Section: Contemporary World Cinema

After being selected as the opening film of the prestigious 34th Venice International Film Critics' Week, acclaimed director Gitanjali Rao's awaited debut feature is set to hit Toronto screens. The animated feature was six years in the making and follows a love story between two flower sellers who explore love and life in the city of Bombay set against the backdrop of the Hindi film industry.

Jallikattu

Director: Lijo Jose Pellissery

Section: Contemporary World Cinema

The celebrated director behind acclaimed Malayalam films like Ee. Ma. Yau. and Angamaly Diaries is all set to have the world premiere of his latest film Jallikattu at the festival. The film portrays a remote village in Kerala where a buffalo escapes and causes chaos and violence.

Moothon (English Title: The Elder One)

Director: Geetu Mohandas

Section: Special Presentations

Actor-turned-director Geetu Mohandas, whose film Liar's Dice was India's official entry to the Oscars in 2014, will have the World Premiere of her second feature film Moothon at TIFF this year. The Nivin Pauly-starrer follows two siblings who escape to Mumbai from Lakshwadeep. With the Hindi dialogue penned by Anurag Kashyap, it was also announced as the opening film of the 2019 MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.

The Sky Is Pink

Director: Shonali Bose

Section: Special Presentations

A family drama from Margarita With A Straw director Shonali Bose, the film stars Zaira Wasim, Farhan Akhtar and marks the grand return of Priyanka Chopra to Hindi cinema. The film is based on a true story of Aisha Chaudhary (played by Wasim), who became a motivational speaker at the age of 13 after being diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis
