Mercury Director Karthik Subbaraj On His Favourite Rajinikanth Film, Villain And Punchline

In a career spanning just six years, Tamil director Karthik Subbaraj has four feature films under his belt and has just bagged one with the superstar Rajinikanth. Ahead of his upcoming release Mercury, which stars Prabhu Deva, he sat down for rapid-fire interview with Film Companion. Here's what he said:

His favourite Rajinikanth film? Mullum Malarum.

Favourite performance? Mullum Malarum and Thalapathy.

Favourite character? Kaali in Mullum Malarum.

Favourite acting moment? The best one would be in Thalapathy, when he is told that he has a mother, he doesn't want to agree because he had come to terms with the fact that he didn't have one. But slowly he starts to believe it himself… I get goose bumps every time I see it.

Favourite Rajinikanth music director? Santosh and Deva. There is still nothing to beat the theme in Annamalai.

Favourite Rajinikanth song? Vetri Nichayam. But I like Sakthi Kodu from Baba.

Favourite Rajinikanth mannerism? The hair and then the cigarette.

Favourite Rajinikanth heroine? Radhika.

Favourite Rajinikanth director? S.V. Muthuraman sir.

Favourite Rajinikanth villain? Raghuvaran.

Favourite Rajinikanth punchline? What you deserve to get you will get, what you don't deserve to get you will never get.
