Petta Trailer Talk: Rajinikanth In Silhouette, Bruce Lee On The Walls And The Twirling Of His Sunglasses, A Tribute More Than A Teaser

The 90-second teaser gives us a small glimpse into the film with two different looks of the superstar and a whole lot of Rajinism
Petta Trailer Talk: Rajinikanth In Silhouette, Bruce Lee On The Walls And The Twirling Of His Sunglasses, A Tribute More Than A Teaser

The teaser is out to celebrate the Superstar's 68th birthday and it's 'marana mass'. It opens in silhouette, with him walking towards a bunch of people fighting. He orders them (to stop?) with just one gesture, in true Rajni style.

The teaser also pays homage to the classic song from Murattu Kaalai – with a placard that appears for a fraction of a second with the words "Annanuku Jai" written on it. Although dressed in a jacket and denims through most of the teaser, he can also be seen in white shirt and veshti flashing his 'Madurai Gethu' moustache as a graffiti of Bruce Lee looks on.

The producers had earlier called the teaser a 'sample of Rajinism' from the film with a 'few surprises'.

It's also the return the iconic Annamalai opening credit sequence, of course with Anirudh's re-interpretation of the 'Annamalai theme' which slowly melds into the 'Marana Mass' track from the film.

Petta's director Karthik Subbaraj, in an interview to Film Companion, had said the film would have enough to satisfy both Rajinikanth's and the director's own fans.

Subbaraj, a legit 'Thalaivar Veriyan', has named the actor's character Kaali in Petta after his personal favourite role from J Mahendran's Mullum Malarum.  Mahendran is said to play a role in Petta as well.

The film's cast in nothing less than a powerhouse of talent with Vijay Sethupathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Trisha, Simran, M Sasikumar, Bobby Simha, Yogi Babu and Munishkanth in it.

The songs by Anirudh, is already a massive success, with its tracks 'Marana Mass'  and 'Petta Paraak' garnering millions of views on Youtube within days. Lyrics are written by Vivek, Ku. Karthik, Dhanush and Karthik Subbaraj himself.

Locations of the film's shoot included Varanasi, Darjeeling, Mussoorie and Lucknow.

Petta, produced by Sun Pictures, is expected to release on Pongal when it takes on Ajith's Viswasam in a clash of the titans.
