Bigil Trailer Talk: The ‘Coach’ Is Here In A Trailer That Can Only Be Called ‘Verithanam’

The most-awaited trailer of any Tamil film this year just dropped, and it has more and enough to please even the most die-hard Vijay fan. Vijay makes his entry as "coach" as he walks past the Tamil Nadu women's football team he has been assigned to train. The superstar also greets a huge crowd (and the audience) with his signature two-hand wave, which he repeats from Mersal.

Jackie Shroff describes his character 'Bigil' as the 'Pride of our Nation', as we see him walk in to a massive stadium sporting a red Tamil Nadu football team jersey. From the arm band, it is evident that he's also the team captain. Later, we also get a really cool action shot of Bigil wearing a lungi beneath this jersey while beating a rowdy to pulp.

Rayappan, the older character he plays in the film, also gets a grand introduction as a group of rowdies surrounds his car, ready to attack him. The red-and-brown shades remind one of the look of his previous collaborations with Atlee. This is bettered when we move to an entire fight sequence that seems to be set on Chennai's Napier Bridge, the same place where the iconic interval block of Theri was set.

The trailer also reveals an interesting romantic angle that shows Bigil (the youngest of Vijay's three looks in the film) attending the wedding of Nayanthara's character. She gets the best dialogue in the trailer when she references the fact that Vijay/Bigil has now become a full-blown action hero who has forgotten the days of Kadhalukku Mariyadhai.

We get glimpses of Yogi Babu and also Kathir, who seems to be a team member offended by something a player from another State team tells him.

The music and cinematography look top notch, including in this shot when a young Bigil can be seen speeding past a hundred flying pigeons.

But the real highlight of the trailer is what forms the last few moments of it. We see Vijay singing 'Ek, Do, Teen' only to reveal that he is counting down to a major bomb blast. Easily, one of the best trailers of the year.

Bigil marks the third collaboration between Atlee and Vijay, and their second (after Mersal) with AR Rahman as music composer. Vijay has also sung 'Verithanam' for the album, and the track has already touched 29 million views on YouTube.

The hype is such for this mega budget film (it is said to have cost Rs. 180 crore to make) that even the trailer was screened in theatres across the State.

Vivekh is also part of the film, produced by Kalpathi S. Aghoram under the banner AGS Entertainment. It has been shot by GK Vishnu and edited by Ruben.
