The trailer of Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 2 was launched amidst much fanfare at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai yesterday. In a press interaction at the launch, actor Rahman expressed his gratitude to be part of the magnum opus and raised expectations for the film’s climax.
Rahman essays the role of Madhuranthakan Chola, a Shaivite scheming to ascend and reign on the throne of the Chola Empire. While it was a short yet pivotal role in the first part, the actor stated that the sequel would feature a meatier part for the actor. “I have a much bigger role in the second part. The answer to Madhuranthakan’s struggles and his motivations are revealed in the film. I consider myself incredibly lucky to be part of such a huge project”, said the actor.
Rahman revealed that his favorite scene in the film is the climax, where all the important characters of the story are seen together in a particular frame. “It’s a fantastic visual. All I can say is wait for it,” concluded the actor.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 is slated to release worldwide on April 28. The film, which is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s epic novel, stars Karthi, Vikram, Jayam Ravi, and Aishwarya Rai. The movie also features music from Maestro A.R Rahman and cinematography by Ravi Varman.
