Samantha’s much-awaited Shaakuntalam is slated to hit the screens on April 14. Gearing up for its release, the makers have now released a new trailer, which underscores the romance and fantasy facets of the epic.
Set in a fantasy-like forest, the trailer portrays how Shakuntala, the daughter of Meneka and sage Vishwamitra meets King Dushyant. Although hindered by several rules and restrictions, Shakuntala and Dushyant slowly fall in love with each other. But what happens when fate intervenes and they are separated?
The trailer encapsulates the film’s visual beauty and grandeur, while also giving us glimpses of romance between the lead pair. “I haven’t even received love from my parents. What will I do if I lose your love as well,” weeps Shakuntala and Dushyant affectionately comforts her, “How love and affection can go away from you when you are the epitome of love.” It then sleekly cuts to Dushyant fighting with the help of animals in a forest and later, leading his troops on the battlefield, while Shakuntala is shown stuck in a cave as a tiger closes in on her.
Director Gunasekar is making his comeback after 8 long years with Shaakuntalam. His last release, Rudhramadevi, solidified its protagonist, Anushka Shetty, as a box office puller in her own right. The movie is touted to do the same for Samantha as well. The film also features Dev Mohan as Dushyanta, along with Mohan Babu, Jisshu Sengupta, Madhoo, Gautami, Aditi Balan, and Ananya Nagalla.
